Palaran

Palaran is the name for traditional Javanese music, performed by a gamelan orchestra and singers, in which the voices are leading. In terms of content, the genre focuses on dramatic themes such as love and struggle. Albert Hagenaars was inspired by it for his poem of the same name. It can be found in the collection 'Pilgrim's Ground' (2022).

Wim van den Boom, who previously set verses by the author from his collection 'Spertijd' to music, composed a modern, western version, in which his guitar playing has taken over the role of the voices.
